Health Advocacy Training for Health Professionals
Moving beyond ‘advocacy for’ to ‘advocacy with’
Health Advocacy remains the most challenging CanMEDS role to define, teach and assess.
We collaborated with community members, individual patients and caregivers, physicians and trainees to co-create workshop materials and resources to help residents learn about different kinds of health advocacy that they might engage in through collaboration with community-based organizations. The resources are being adapted for students in different programs including: physical therapy, occupational therapy, and pharmacy.
