ImpactBC Scholarship in Health Care Research and Development
Scholarships totalling $7,600* have been made available through an endowment established by ImpactBC for outstanding student(s) enrolled in a health program at UBC Vancouver or UBC Okanagan who have completed a research or development project focusing on patient/client involvement in healthcare decision-making or in health professional education.
ImpactBC was instrumental in advancing health care improvement and patient engagement in BC from 2000-2015. The awards are made on the recommendation of the Office of the Vice-President, Health and, in the case of graduate students, in consultation with the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies (Vancouver) or the College of Graduate Studies (Okanagan).
*One or more scholarships valued at a minimum of $1,000 each will be offered every year.
Applicants must:
- Be registered in a health or human services degree program at UBC and be in good academic standing.
- Have completed, as part of the applicant’s studies in a health or human services degree program at UBC, a research or development project focusing on patient/client involvement in health care decision-making or in health professional education.
- Meet the minimum requirements for holding and retaining scholarships as stated in the UBC Senate Regulations Governing University Awards.
All required forms and supporting documentation as outlined below must be received by the application deadline.​
Step 1
Complete and submit the online application form.
Step 2
Upload a copy of your research or development project on patient/client involvement in healthcare decision-making or in health professional education to the application form online (file must be in PDF format).
Step 3
Request an official PDF transcript to be delivered by email to ubchealth.admin@ubc.ca.
Step 4
Request two letters of recommendations from referees with formal academic or health professional roles who can clearly describe the impact of your research or development project focusing on patient/client involvement in healthcare decision-making or in health professional education, including the value that you brought to the research or project. Letters of recommendation (maximum 2 pages each) must be emailed by your referees directly to ubchealth.admin@ubc.ca.
Note: Applicants must ensure that official transcripts and letters of recommendation are sent to ubchealth.admin@ubc.ca by the application deadline in order for the application package to be complete. Late or incomplete application packages will not be considered.
The ImpactBC Scholarship in Health Care Research and Development recipients are selected by the UBC Health Awards Committee, which is composed of UBC faculty members, students, and public members from the health community.
By accepting the ImpactBC Scholarship, recipients consent to having their names, and programs of study, and photo published in UBC Health communications.
